As a sponsoring Habitat for Humanity organization, Marist Women Build must raise $75,000 to build a home.  The adult volunteers contribute $200 to participate in the build, but no willing worker is turned away.  The balance is raised through corporate and family sponsors and donors like you.  The home must be completely funded by early February, 2011.

Why support Marist Women Build?
You will give a single mother a "hand-up, not a "hand-out":  By design, we build a home for a single working mother.  We are inspired by the strength and courage of these women and their families as they work side by side with us to fulfill their dreams of homeownership.  Building the home is just one step in the process.  As with all homeowners, these women attend classes on homeownership, volunteer 250 "sweat-equity" hours, and assume financial responsibility for a mortgage after the first year.

You will enable more children to attend college:  Our first homeowner told us recently that "By owning my home, I was able to give my sons the stability they needed.  Now all three of my sons are attending college or soon will be."

You will empower women in your community to make a difference: The Marist Women Build project demonstrates that Women can build homes for deserving women.  The mother's daughters, faculty, and staff of Marist School comprise our work force of 275 volunteer builders

What is Marist Women Build?
Eight years ago, the women of Marist School teamed with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity to form the first High School All-Women Build in the country.  Because of the generous donations of our corporate sponsors, family sponsors, and volunteers, we have built nine homes for nine single women and their families and are getting ready to start our 10th home in March, 2011.  While we are proud of our accomplishments, the need is still great - there are over 3,000 applicants each year for only 55 homes.

Visit the Marist Women Build or Atlanta Habitat for Humanity for more information.

When my first child started as a 7th grader, I participated in Marist Women Build by working one Saturday along with 40 other women and loved it.  I met women with kids in all grades while building a house for a single mom and her children. The new homeowner worked with us as well!  Some of the Marist Moms were also working with their daughters.  It was so empowering to see all these women building a home for a woman and her children.

I have enjoyed it so much that I have been on the board now for four years and am Co-Chair with Kimberly Duckworth who also has three boys!  I guess we both needed some female fellowship!

We are building our 10th House this Spring, 2011.  We are responsible for raising $ 75,000 to cover the cost of the house.  We do that through individual, corporate and builder donations.  About 1/3 of our donations will come from individuals.

Please consider helping us this year either by building with us or making an individual donation.  Your donation will provide a hand up to a woman working hard to provide stability and safety for her children.  Thank you.
