As a sponsoring Habitat for Humanity organization, Marist Women Build must raise $75,000 to build a home.  The adult volunteers contribute $200 to participate in the build, but no willing worker is turned away.  The balance is raised through corporate and family sponsors and donors like you.  The home must be completely funded by early February, 2011.

Why support Marist Women Build?
You will give a single mother a "hand-up, not a "hand-out":  By design, we build a home for a single working mother.  We are inspired by the strength and courage of these women and their families as they work side by side with us to fulfill their dreams of homeownership.  Building the home is just one step in the process.  As with all homeowners, these women attend classes on homeownership, volunteer 250 "sweat-equity" hours, and assume financial responsibility for a mortgage after the first year.

You will enable more children to attend college:  Our first homeowner told us recently that "By owning my home, I was able to give my sons the stability they needed.  Now all three of my sons are attending college or soon will be."

You will empower women in your community to make a difference: The Marist Women Build project demonstrates that Women can build homes for deserving women.  The mother's daughters, faculty, and staff of Marist School comprise our work force of 275 volunteer builders

Please consider supporting this worthy cause.  Your donation is 100% tax deductable.

What is Marist Women Build?
Eight years ago, the women of Marist School teamed with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity to form the first High School All-Women Build in the country.  Because of the generous donations of our corporate sponsors, family sponsors, and volunteers, we have built nine homes for nine single women and their families and are getting ready to start our 10th home in March, 2011.  While we are proud of our accomplishments, the need is still great - there are over 3,000 applicants each year for only 55 homes.

Visit the Marist Women Build or Atlanta Habitat for Humanity for more information.

As most of you know, I have been a part of the Marist Women Build Habitat for Humanity project for the past several years, first on the Hospitality Committee and for the past four years as the Volunteer Coordinator. This is the single most rewarding undertaking I have been involved with since becoming involved with Marist six years ago- women building homes for women! Wow!
During our recent snow-in, I sent a letter to our Marist women to assist with the builder registration. What follows is a portion of that note.  I hope it will inspire you to remember your many blessings, Share the Warmth, and help in my personal campaign to raise $500 to build Marist Women Build's tenth house this spring. Whatever you can donate, including your prayers for a successful and safe build, would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you so much.

I’m sure that your family, like mine, is feeling a little stir crazy as we remain “stuck at home” waiting for ice to melt, roads to be cleared, and school to finally be back in session. I would ask you to remember just how blessed we all are to have homes to be “stuck in”.  Imagine being able to share the blessings of safety, warmth and security with another family... we hope that you will change the lives of one mother and her family by helping her realize the dream of living in her own home. Next winter, she will be thrilled to have a home to be “stuck in”.  Stay warm, keep safe and remember how lucky we are to be stuck inside our own homes.
